11.30.2011   Job Seeker Lunch
Job Seeker Lunch I wanted to let you know about a Job Seeker luncheon we have planned for Tuesday, December 6, from noon to 1:00 pm. We are delighted to have as our guest speaker Beth Sweeney from Lee Hecht Harrison, which is a global talent management solutions company with over 240 offices worldwide providing expertise in Career Transition, Leadership Consulting and Workforce Solutions. Beth will talk about how to strategically penetrate the job market. Job seekers have been repeatedly told that most available positions are filled through references. In order to find them, they need to network. But how is that effectively done in today’s competitive, globally and digitally influenced marketplace? How does a job seeker penetrate the job market? Job seekers are invited to enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by CVCC culinary students, network with one another, meet our new superintendent, Dr. Celena Roebuck, and hear Ms. Sweeney’s advice on strategies to penetrate today’s job market This luncheon presentation as a FREE community service. Feel free to pass this information on to anyone you feel could benefit from this opportunity. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Bridget Murphy at bmurphy@cvccworks.com or 440-746-8233.

08.22.2011   Business Roundtable Discussion
As your voices in the Statehouse and as members of the Economic and Small Business Development Committee, we are devoted to supporting business friendly legislation that will help stimulate the economy by creating an environment where jobs are created and maintained. As we continue to work on legislation this summer, we need your insight into what is important to you and your business. We also need to know specifically what state laws or regulations you believe should reasonably be changed to create a business friendly environment for you to operate in. To that end, we are pleased that that the City of Broadview Heights has offered to host a Roundtable Discussion for you to share your thoughts with us. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 7:30pm in the Council Chambers room. We are also pleased that the Chamber of Commerce in Broadview Heights is extending an invitation to interested businesses in not only Broadview Heights, but also the business communities in Brecksville, North Royalton and Strongsville to attend the meeting. We have three objectives for the meeting: 1. Determine specifically what state laws or regulations may be preventing you from prospering; 2. Get to know you and your business; and 3. Take your input back to Columbus as the legislature considers changes to state laws and regulations that will make Ohio a more business friendly state. While we are interested in hearing your thoughts and concerns about most any subject, the Roundtable Meeting on August 30th is specifically planned to be a "nuts and bolts" meeting with the business community about business issues only. If you have other topics of concern, please contact our offices to arrange a discussion with us at another time. Although there is no charge to attend the meeting on August 30, please RSVP to Broadview Heights Economic Development Director Dave Schroedel at dschroedel@broadview-heights.org When you RSVP, if possible, please provide a brief written summary of your concerns and the specific state laws and regulations, including sections of the Ohio Revised Code, that you believe should be changed. We look forward to meeting with you. Marlene Anielski
